I'm Mike Vannucci. I write backend and distributed systems for a living — Go, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, AWS. Before that I taught physics for seven years. I live in New Jersey with my family.

Teaching gave me a bias I haven't shaken: I don't think you understand something until you can explain it without the diagram. Most of what's here is me trying to get to that point in public, usually before I've earned it.

Career stuff shows up too. Learning a field mid-career isn't a separate activity from having a career, however much I'd like to schedule them apart.
